Rebecca Sharrock, 34, possesses a rare condition known as highly superior autobiographical memory (H-SAM). This neurological quirk allows her to recall most of her life in intricate detail. Only 62 individuals worldwide share this ability. Rebecca’s memory traces back to her infancy, even remembering moments from her time in the womb.
“My earliest memory is probably the time when I was a fetus in the womb,” she shared. “Those memories don’t mean much for some reason.”
Despite this remarkable ability, Rebecca acknowledges the challenges it brings. “My mind just can’t forget the vanities of the past,” she expressed. She wasn’t diagnosed with H-SAM until she turned 21, residing in Brisbane, Australia.
Rebecca’s condition, though fascinating, comes with its complexities. Dysregulation necessitates therapy to manage her memories effectively. “At the moment, I would say I can remember 95 percent of everything that has happened to me in my life,” Rebecca revealed.
