The investigation, now with the Indiana State Police, is awaiting autopsy results. Authorities confirmed there is no immediate threat to the public.
A Father’s Heartbreak
Jonathan Newell, the girls’ father, expressed his shock and grief. He initially reassured his mother, saying, “Don’t worry, she’s fine, the kids are fine,” only to later discover the tragic news. Jonathan shared, “Sometimes you’re mad. Sometimes you’re sad. Other times you’re so dissociated you don’t even feel like you’re there.”
Community Support
The local community has come together, raising over $45,000 through a GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs. Jonathan remarked, “This is really the last thing I get to do for them,” highlighting the overwhelming support from strangers.
Raising Awareness
In the wake of this tragedy, Jonathan is advocating for mental health awareness, urging parents to seek help when needed. He stated, “If you are a parent and you have kids, and you need help, then get it,” aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
