Simon Marks, 37, stumbled upon a hidden piece of history right under his driveway. Initially thinking his car had damaged a flowerbed, Simon was intrigued by strange noises and investigated further. He discovered cracks in the driveway revealing a buried object.
With his father’s help, they excavated and uncovered a ladder leading to an air raid shelter from World War II. These shelters were built for protection during bombings. One wall was bricked up likely during house construction, hiding the shelter over time.
Simon reflected on the find, stating, “If that’s the case, we’ll just have to leave it.” Despite his initial intention, news of the discovery spread, prompting Simon and his father to restore and preserve the shelter. They see it as a vital link to the past, ensuring this historical artifact isn’t forgotten.
