Laura Morris, a fifth-grade teacher in Leesburg, Virginia, tearfully resigned from Lucketts Elementary School due to her objections to teaching critical race theory (CRT). At a Loudoun County School Board meeting, Morris criticized the board’s “highly-politicized agendas” and the curriculum changes associated with CRT, which examines racism in societal structures.
Morris stated, “I quit being a cog in a machine that tells me to push highly-politicized agendas on our most vulnerable constituents – the children.” She cited clashes between her Christian beliefs and the district’s ideologies.
Expressing concerns about her personal life, Morris mentioned receiving emails warning against dissenting opinions, even outside of work. Frustrated by what she saw as the district’s disregard for dissenting voices and bias against certain demographics, Morris chose to resign.
Encouraging parents and staff to explore other educational options, Morris emphasized the importance of considering alternative perspectives.
