Jack, a single dad, was surprised one morning to find homemade pancakes on his kitchen table. With his wife traveling, Jack had been handling work and childcare alone for his daughters, Emma (4) and Lily (5). Confused, he asked, “Girls, did you see this?” Lily exclaimed, “Wow, pancakes! Did you make them, Daddy?”
Determined to uncover the mystery, Jack woke up early and hid in the kitchen. At 6 a.m., he saw a woman in old postal worker clothes climb through the window. “Wait, please, I won’t harm you,” Jack said. The woman, Claire, explained she had been helped by Jack months earlier when she was homeless. “Your kindness saved me,” she said.
Moved by her story, Jack invited Claire to join them for breakfast. Emma and Lily quickly took a liking to her. Jack felt hopeful, saying, “Let’s help each other from now on.” Claire smiled and responded, “I’d like that very much, Jack. Thank you.”
