Sienna Stewart, an 18-year-old graduate from Hiram High School, passed away shortly after a triumphant moment at her graduation on May 23. Diagnosed with heart failure from severe cardiomyopathy, Sienna had undergone a life-saving heart transplant at age four. Despite her health struggles, she was determined to walk across the stage.
On graduation day, Sienna collapsed unexpectedly. “The ambulance was already there when I got there,” said her mother, Saevon Chum. After regaining consciousness, Sienna cried, pleading to finish her walk. She was determined, telling her mom, “I just want to walk and graduate.”
Sienna had missed her senior prom due to hospitalization, but she achieved her goal of walking across the stage. The audience gave her a standing ovation as she received her diploma. “As a mom, you feel so proud because she just fought through something that hurts her,” Saevon said.
Sienna dreamed of becoming an ultrasound technician and was set to start college in the fall. Her legacy of courage and resilience will never be forgotten.
