Keeping Hummingbirds Safe

Many of us enjoy watching birds in our yards, especially delicate hummingbirds. Yet, if you have a hummingbird feeder, regular cleaning is essential. Neglecting this task can harm these tiny creatures.

Hummingbird feeders should be cleaned every three days to prevent mold and mildew in the nectar. According to World of Hummingbirds, contamination can lead to severe illness or death. If the nectar looks odd—discolored or slimy—it’s time for a thorough cleaning.

To clean, disassemble the feeder and rinse all parts with hot water. Use a scrub brush if needed and mild soap, ensuring no residue remains. After drying, reassemble and refill with fresh nectar.

Keeping feeders clean ensures the safety of hummingbirds enjoying a snack in your yard. Spread the word to fellow feeder owners for the well-being of these beloved birds.
