Picture day is a big deal for kids, a chance to show off their style. For three-year-old Kaylieann Steinbach, who has hearing loss, it was both exciting and nerve-wracking. When she didn’t like the clothes her parents chose, she decided to make a bold choice to be herself.
Kaylieann loves superheroes, calling them “Pooterman” and “Pootergirl” because of her hearing loss. So, instead of regular clothes, she insisted on wearing her Supergirl costume.
Her parents, Austin and Cristina Steinbach, supported her decision wholeheartedly. Kaylieann confidently posed for her school photo, dressed as Supergirl and even brought along a superhero doll.
Kaylieann’s unique style has made her a hit at school, where she often dresses up as different characters. Her dad, Austin, shared her photo online, and it went viral, especially among the deaf community.
Austin was amazed by the outpouring of support. “I never expected her picture to touch so many hearts,” he said. “It’s been overwhelming to receive all the messages of kindness and encouragement.”
Kaylieann’s story is a powerful example of bravery and resilience. Despite her challenges, she boldly embraced her true self on picture day, inspiring many, including myself, to celebrate her as a real superhero.
