Joe Bryant, father of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has died at 69, confirmed by La Salle University’s athletics department. Joe, known as “Jellybean,” recently suffered a stroke, though the exact cause of death remains unclear.
A former professional basketball player, Joe Bryant played college basketball at La Salle University from 1973 to 1975. He was drafted 14th overall by the Golden State Warriors in 1975, and his career included stints with the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers, and Houston Rockets. He also played in Europe, notably in Italy, and later returned to La Salle as a coach from 1993 to 1996.
La Salle’s men’s basketball team and the Philadelphia 76ers mourned his passing, remembering him as a cherished part of their basketball community. This loss follows the tragic death of Joe’s son, Kobe Bryant, who passed away earlier this year.
Our deepest condolences are with the Bryant family during this difficult time.
