Derek was frantic after his daughter, Amber, went missing a week ago. Despite police assurances, there were no new leads. On his way home, Derek saw a homeless woman with Amber’s backpack. He asked, “Where did you get this?” She replied, “Found it at the bus station; some teenage girl left it behind.” Inside, Derek found a note with an address labeled “Hostess Family.”
Derek went to the address but learned Amber hadn’t been there. Feeling hopeless, he decided to return home and saw his ex-wife Miranda at a café. Derek asked her about Amber, and though Miranda initially denied knowing anything, she confessed when Derek found Amber’s inhaler in her bag.
Amber, who overheard them, was found crying on a bench. Derek comforted her, and Amber apologized, saying, “I’m so sorry, Dad. I didn’t mean to worry you.” Derek hugged her and said, “It’s okay. You just wanted to meet your mom. But you’re grounded for two weeks.” Amber smiled, feeling safe and loved.
