Alexis Solis, a stay-at-home mom from Los Banos, California, has drawn criticism after sharing a video on TikTok showing her using a leash on her daughter in a grocery store. The video, which amassed 12.9 million views, faced backlash with comments like, “I hope they leash her when she’s 50,” and others calling the leash “dumb.”
Why the Leash?
Solis, a former behavioral analysis therapist, defends her choice by highlighting its safety benefits, especially for children prone to running off. She noted, “The leash was a lifesaver for children who are prone to running off in public.” She also referenced her experience with children with autism, who might “elope,” or wander off unexpectedly.
Personal Experience
Solis’s concern stems from her own traumatic past, including a childhood sexual assault. She emphasized, “Those feelings got stronger when I became a mom,” making her vigilant about her children’s safety.
Despite the criticism, some parents understand Solis’s perspective, acknowledging the different needs of families.
