Beloved country singer and author Richard “Kinky” Friedman passed away at his Texas home at the age of 79. The news broke on Thursday, announced by a statement: “Kinky Friedman stepped on a rainbow at his beloved Echo Hill surrounded by family & friends.” Despite facing personal challenges in recent years, Friedman maintained his spirited personality and humor.

Friedman, known for his music and writing, began his career with the band King Arthur & the Carrots while attending the University of Texas. His musical journey continued with the Texas Jewboys and collaborations with Bob Dylan.

Beyond music, Friedman authored detective novels and contributed a column to Texas Monthly. His diverse talents and unique style left a lasting impact on both literature and music.
