Patricia Williams was excited to share photos of her newborn son Redd in 2012, but she soon faced cruel online mockery due to his unique appearance. Redd was born with albinism, characterized by white hair and pale skin, and his eyes moved differently—a trait linked to the condition. This genetic disorder affects 1 in 17,000 people worldwide.
In 2018, Redd’s younger brother, Rockwell, was also born with albinism, and his newborn pictures were even turned into hurtful memes online. Despite the challenges and bullying Redd faced in school, the family decided to raise awareness about albinism to combat ignorance and stigma.
Redd underwent eye surgery to correct his vision, allowing him to transition to a public school successfully. Over time, with supportive measures like hats and sunscreen, both Redd and Rockwell thrived, enjoying life like any other children.
Patricia used social media to educate others about albinism, emphasizing that contrary to misconceptions, those with the condition typically have light blue—not red—eyes. Today, both boys are happy and healthy, their family proud advocates for understanding and acceptance.
