Lyn May: From Stardom to Tragedy

Lyn May, the Chinese-Mexican showgirl known as “The Goddess of Love,” starred in nearly 100 films and won fame with her captivating performances. However, a 1990s Botox procedure went wrong, leaving her with “disfiguring lumps” on her face. “I was given injections of water, baby oil, or cooking oil,” she said, revealing the procedure’s severe impact.

Born Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares in 1952, Lyn faced a difficult early life. After a troubled marriage to an American sailor and a subsequent move to Acapulco, she rose to fame in Mexican cinema, particularly in the Ficheras genre.

Her personal life was marred by tragedy. Following the death of her second husband, Antonio Chi Su, from cancer in 2008, she admitted, “I dug him up and slept beside him,” reflecting her deep grief.

In 2021, Lyn’s announcement of her pregnancy at 68 turned out to be a publicity stunt. Despite her hardships, Lyn May remains an enduring symbol of resilience and glamour in Mexican pop culture.
