On July 3, two hikers discovered a German shepherd in Malibu Creek Canyon with its mouth zip-tied shut. The 7-year-old dog was found in a dire state, “stranded, down a hill in the middle of nowhere,” according to Jonathan Manaoat, one of the rescuers.
The hikers, rock climbers in the area, stopped to help. They managed to gain the dog’s trust, remove the zip tie, and provide food. Manaoat described the dog as “such a sweet dog,” noting that he “allowed my friend and I to pet him and he gently ate our food out of our hands.”
The dog was also suffering from inflammation and warts, and it is suspected he had been exposed to poison oak. Authorities are now searching for the person responsible for this act of cruelty.
