In 1993, Jo Ann Ussery faced homelessness after her Mississippi house was destroyed. Unable to afford a suitable trailer, she bought a decommissioned Boeing 727 for $2,000 and spent $30,000 transforming it into a livable space. The 138-foot plane became her unconventional yet fully functional home with three bedrooms, a kitchen, living area, laundry room, and even a luxurious bathroom in the cockpit.
Ussery’s brother-in-law inspired the idea, and she seized the opportunity to create something unique. “I thought it was the most wonderful idea I had ever heard,” she recalled.
After enjoying her Boeing home for years, Ussery planned to turn it into a museum to share its splendor with others. Sadly, the plane suffered severe damage during transportation, but its legacy endures as a symbol of creativity and resilience.
