Former NFL player Warrick Dunn continues to make a difference in Florida even after retiring from football. Through his nonprofit, Warrick Dunn Charities, and in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, Dunn recently gave LaToya Reedy, a single mother, and her 18-year-old son a fully furnished two-bedroom home in St. Petersburg. LaToya, who had been struggling as a nursing assistant, expressed her joy upon receiving the keys, saying, “Being a homeowner now, I can be at home.”
This act marks the 173rd home donated by Dunn’s foundation to single-parent families. Dunn’s motivation stems from his own experience; he was raised by a single mother who tragically passed away when he was 18. Reflecting on his mother’s legacy, Dunn shared, “She was compassionate, kind, helpful, and everything I could want in a wife. I consider my mother to be superwoman.”
For LaToya, the home represents stability and the fulfillment of a long-held dream. “I can be at peace,” she said gratefully. “It’s been a long, hard journey of struggle and sacrifices, but we made it.”
