A man discovers a wallet containing $700. Days later, he sees a notice offering a $50 reward for its return. He returns it to the owner, who claims it originally held $750. They end up in court.
The rich man accuses the finder of taking $50. The poor man denies it. In court, the rich man asserts, “Your Honor, I trust you believe me.” The Judge, seeing through the ruse, hands the wallet to the poor man.
The rich man protests, but the Judge explains that if the finder were dishonest, he wouldn’t have returned the wallet. The money stays with the finder unless someone else claims it. The rich man must wait for his missing $750 to resurface.
