Renowned physicist Stephen Hawking, known for his groundbreaking work in theoretical physics, shared his views on God and the afterlife before his passing. He firmly stated his atheistic beliefs, emphasizing the explanatory power of science over religion. In an interview, he asserted, “Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation.”
In his book “The Grand Design,” co-authored with Leonard Mlodinow, Hawking expanded on his stance, attributing the universe’s creation to the laws of physics rather than a divine entity. He argued, “Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing.”
Regarding the afterlife, Hawking dismissed it as wishful thinking, writing in his final book, “Brief Answers to the Big Questions,” that there’s likely no Heaven or afterlife. However, he respected others’ beliefs, stating, “We are each free to believe what we want.”
Hawking’s perspective, shaped by his scientific inquiries, stands as a testament to his commitment to understanding the universe through empirical evidence rather than faith.
